THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The capital city is still trembling in shock over the mass murder news in Venjarammoodu. It is reported that the accused, 23-year-old Afaan confessed to police about having financial liabilities which made him massacre his family members. Afaan after committing five murders, reached Venjaramoodu police station and surrendered.
Afaan hacked five of his family members in three locations including in Perumala, Pangode and R L Puram. He first reached his paternal grandmother’s house and hacked her to death. The accused even attacked his mother Shamina, who is undergoing treatment in critical condition. Afaan committed all these five murders in just three hours.
Afaan is currently admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital after he admitted to the police about consuming rat poison.
Brother Ahsan and mother Shamina. Girlfriend Farzana, paternal grandmother Salma Beewi, paternal sister Shahida and her husband Latif were killed. The murders took place in three houses in the capital city.
The accused, who was abroad with his father on a visiting visa returned only recently. Afaan’s mother Shamina is a cancer patient. The deceased Latif was a retired CRPF officer while brother Ahsan was a 9th standard student at Venjaramoodu school.
The sickening series of murders started this morning. As per the latest detail, Afaan was in a relationship with Farzana. Two days back, he brought Farzana to his house much to the ire of his family members. Even his paternal grandmother and other relatives showed disapproval of this relationship. Police believe Afaan was incensed over this issue and planned to kill every one of his family members who objected to his relationship.
Police skimmed through Afaan’s phone details and came to an initial conclusion that the whole series of murders had something to do with his strange relationship with Farzana.
