THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Officers at Venjarammoodu police station were left befuddled and couldn’t believe their ears when 23-year-old Afaan walked insouciantly inside the station to confess that he killed five including his brother.
“I killed many people, SIR. I also left the gas cylinder open at my home. I came here to surrender.” This was the first few words to come out of Afaan when he reached the police station.
The information was suddenly passed to higher-ups, while ADGP Manoj Abraham, who is in charge of law and order, was instructed to act without wasting a single moment.
A section of the police team circled Afaan to take details while others rushed to three different locations as per Afaan’s confession. Shockingly, the police found dead bodies in all three houses, almost exactly to what Afaan said. The fire force was also brought in to relieve the emergency caused by the cooking gas being turned on.
Afaan:
“I am 23 years old and my father runs a furniture shop in the Gulf. The business fell apart and the debt mounted on him. We had requested money from relatives at home to help my father out. My father’s brother cared not to help while my paternal grandmother despite having lots of jewellery, turned me down. This left me fuming and I decided to eliminate them.
I first strangulated my grandmother to death at her house on Monday morning. I then took her jewellery and sold it to a nearby private finance firm. With that money, I bought a hammer. I then took my bike to reach all three locations. All the others were killed by smashing their head with the hammer.
My mother is a cancer patient and I don’t want her to struggle all alone with the disease. So I smashed her with the hammer. My girlfriend wouldn't live a moment without me and I thought it would be best to take her life rather than pushing her to further mental struggle. I brought her to my home and killed her. Later, when my 13-year-old brother came from school, it killed him too with the hammer.”
After saying this much, Afaan collapsed and revealed to police that he had consumed rat poison. Doctors are monitoring his health condition. Police are not ready to buy Afaan’s reasons for committing these brutal murders. ADGP Manoj Abraham said further investigation would be required.
