KOTTAYAM: BJP leader and former MLA PC George, who surrendered before the Erattupetta court after the High Court rejected his anticipatory bail in the hate speech case in a channel discussion, has been remanded for 14 days. He was admitted to the Kottayam Medical College Cardiac ICU after his ECG showed abnormalities. The initial decision was to shift him to Pala Sub Jail.
PC George was first shifted to the Kottayam Medical College's inmate cell after a medical examination at Pala General Hospital found abnormalities in his ECG. Following an ECG test there, he was shifted to the ICU at 7 pm.
74-year-old George had presented documents in his bail application showing that for the past 14 years he has been sleeping at night with the help of an oxygen mask but Judge R Krishnaprabhan rejected the argument.
George, who had announced that he would appear at the police station, dramatically surrendered in court. Although the remand is until March 10, George is likely to file a bail application again today or tomorrow.
