THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The magistrate recorded the statement of the accused Afaan in the Venjaramoodu massacre case. The magistrate recorded his statement after reaching the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. Afaan, has been admitted in the hospital for consuming poison. He told police that he committed the crime following financial liabilities. Meantime, the police have not fully believed his statement.
23-year-old Afaan, killed five people from three houses in Perumala, R L Puram and Pangode in Thiruvananthapuram. Shemi, hacked by his son Afaan is in a very critical condition. Afaan killed his brother Afsan, his girlfriend Farsana, his paternal grandmother Salma Beevi, paternal uncle Latheef and his wife Shahida . They were found murdered in three houses.
Police said this is a series of murders that started Monday morning. The reason for the massacre is said to be the rising debts incurred after their business (spare parts shop) abroad was at a loss. The accused had told police that he had borrowed a huge amount of money from many including from those in his hometown. When he felt that he could not live due to debts, he decided to kill everyone and end his life. The accused told police that he called his girlfriend from home thinking that if he died, she would be alone and so brought her to his house and hacked her to death. An inquest will be held soon. The police said the postmortem of the five victims will be held today.
