THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Afaan, the accused in the mass murders in Venjaramoodu is not cooperating with the treatment. He has been admitted in the pay ward of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. The accused had expressed discomfort yesterday. Afaan told police that he had consumed rat poison after the murder.

It is reported that Afaan is not cooperating with treatment, including gastric lavage. He tried to remove the cannula inserted. He is also showing discomfort. The accused is presently handcuffed to the bed. Meantime, the doctors informed that his health condition is satisfactory.

The magistrate visited the hospital last night and recorded his statement. Afaan told police that he committed the crime due to financial liabilities. However, the police have not fully believed his statement.

23-year-old Afaan, killed five people from three houses in Perumala, R L Puram and Pangode in Thiruvananthapuram. Shemi, hacked by his son Afaan is in a very critical condition. Afaan killed his brother Afsan, girlfriend Farsana, his paternal grandmother Salma Beevi, paternal uncle Latheef and his wife Shahida. They were found murdered in three houses.


Police said this is a series of murders that started Monday morning. The reason for the massacre is said to be the rising debts incurred after their business (spare parts shop) abroad was at a loss. The accused told police that he had borrowed a huge amount of money from many including from those in his hometown. When he felt that he could not live due to debts, he decided to kill everyone and end his life. The police said the postmortem of the five victims will be held today.
