THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Venjarammoodu mass murder accused Afaan’s father Rahim denied allegations of financial liabilities behind the murder spree. Rahim, who is working in the Gulf, said he had no idea of Afaan’s relationship with Farzana.
Rahim still has no clue what triggered his son to go devilish with the murder spree. He also denied having financial obligations in Saudi where he currently works.
Meanwhile, relatives said Rahim was unable to reach home at this hour due to his financial liabilities in the Gulf. The accused stated to the police and the magistrate that the family had a financial liability of 75 lakhs, which he cited as the reason for taking up arms.
Afaan after committing five murders, reached Venjaramoodu police station and surrendered.
Afaan killed five of his family members in three locations including in Perumala, Pangode and S N Puram. He first reached his paternal grandmother’s house and strangled her to death. The accused even attacked his mother Shamina, who is undergoing treatment in critical condition. Afaan committed all these five murders in just three hours.
The deceased was his younger brother Afsan (13), his girlfriend Farzana (19), a native of Venjaramoodu Mukkunnoor, his father's mother Salma Beevi (88), his father's brother Latif (69), and Latif's wife Shahida (59), who were from Pullampara Alamukil and S.N. Puram.
