THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The capital city witnessed a mass killing on Monday. 23-year-old Afaan of Perumala in Venjaramoodu killed five people. The victims were Afaan's girlfriend Farsana, his brother Afsan, his paternal uncle Latheef, his wife Shahida, and his paternal grandmother Salma Beevi. The murders were committed in three houses. The accused later surrendered at the police station.
Farsana (23) of Mukkunnoor in Venjaramoodu, was a bright student. Farsana, who had scored full A plus in class 10, was an MSc Chemistry student. Afaan and Farsana studied in the same school. The family thought both were good friends. The two kept their relationship a secret.
Since Afaan's friends and relatives lived near Farsana's house, the accused used to visit there occasionally. Most people were not aware of their relationship. However, Latheef, who came to know about this relationship, informed Afaan's family. It is believed that Latheef was murdered for informing their relationship. Latheef was murdered brutally. The locals had seen Farsana and the accused going in a bike at 4 pm last evening.
The accused murdered Farsana after bringing her to his own house. He hacked her on her face and she was beyond recognition. He killed his paternal grandmother Salma Beevi after banging her head to a wall. The accused killed his paternal uncle, Latheef and his wife, Shahida by hitting them on the head.
