MALAPPURAM: Kannur Town Police has registered a case against CPM leaders who blocked the road in the city and staged a protest at the Head Post Office. The case is against about 5,000 people who are recognisable by sight. District Secretary MV Jayarajan is the first accused. MLA KV Sumesh has also been named as an accused in the case.

The case is for obstructing traffic by causing inconvenience to the public. The Kannur Head Post Office blockade was on the Kargil-Yogsala four-lane highway in Kannur under the leadership of the CPM district committee against central neglect and economic sanctions. Chairs and tents were set up in the middle of the road. Many people participated in the protest against the central government's neglect of Kerala.

MV Jayarajan's response was that he had received a police notice against the protest blocking the road and that he put it in his pocket. The protest is for the people. He also clarified that there is no need for the strike if the court orders that the centre provide assistance.
