RAWALPINDI: Today's Champions Trophy match between Australia and South Africa has been abandoned due to rain. The match, scheduled to take place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, was called off without a single ball being bowled. With the match being abandoned, both Australia and South Africa were awarded one point each. This brings their total points to three each. However, based on the net run rate, South Africa holds the top position in the group, while Australia is in second place.

Efforts were made to conduct at least a 20-over match despite the rain delay, but those attempts also failed, leading to the match being officially abandoned.

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif criticized the inadequate covering of the playing area at the Rawalpindi Stadium. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he questioned whether Pakistan had properly utilized the funds provided by the ICC.

Tomorrow’s match between England and Afghanistan will determine the third team to be eliminated from the Champions Trophy. So far, Pakistan and Bangladesh have already been knocked out. The match between Pakistan and Bangladesh will take place on Thursday.

It's a shame that the Rawalpindi ground isn't fully covered. Such an important match - SA vs Aus - might go down the drain because no one addressed this issue. Was the ICC money utilised wisely by hosts? pic.twitter.com/nPwthd1fji
