VAKKOM: A colleague was stabbed to death with scissors following an argument over alcohol in Nilakkamukku. Shibu (45) of Keezhattingal, Vilayilmoola, was murdered near the old beverages in Nilakkamukku, Vakkom, on Monday evening. Varun (40) of 'Thiruvathira,' Kadakkavur, Chavadimukku, was arrested by the police in Kadakkavur.

The deceased Shibu was the supervisor of a contractor who carries out works for the Irrigation Department in various places in Kerala. The accused, Varun, worked as a driver for the same contractor. The contractor had fired Varun from his job two weeks ago following problems at the workplace. On Monday, Varun, Shibu, and his friends had a verbal argument after consuming alcohol. Varun accused Shibu of being the reason for his dismissal. Afterwards, Shibu went to his vehicle with his friend to go home. When Shibu went to buy something from a shop behind Nilakkamukku market, Varun came from behind and stabbed Shibu in the head and chest with scissors. By nightfall, Varun surrendered at the police station.
