THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Public Works Department will prepare an action plan to complete the construction of the 500-kilometer-long hill highway. 250 kilometres of construction has already been completed. Following the directive of Minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas, the action plan is being prepared to complete another 250 kilometres before March. The hill road stretches from Nandarapadavu in Kasaragod to Parassala in Thiruvananthapuram, covering 793.68 kilometres.
The road, with a width of 12 meters, is being constructed with BM and BC grade standards across 55 stretches. The construction is supported by KIIFB. The design includes carriageways, footpaths, stormwater drains, bus bays, bus shelters, and utility ducts to avoid digging up the road for pipeline and cable installations. Advanced full-depth reclamation technology is used to strengthen the road foundation. The first stretch, from Kozhikode Kodenchery Kakkadampoyil Road, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the 15th.
