KOCHI: Kuttanad MLA Thomas K Thomas is set to be appointed as the state president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). A majority of the 38 state officebearers who held discussions with national leaders appointed by NCP National President Sharad Pawar supported his candidature. The official announcement will be made by Sharad Pawar in Mumbai.
The discussions were led by National General Secretary Jitendra Awhad and Kerala in-charge General Secretary and former Lakshadweep MP Mohammed Faizal. Since all 14 district presidents had already submitted a letter supporting Thomas K Thomas, they did not participate in direct discussions. The national leaders consulted with other officebearers instead.
Some members had also suggested the names of current office bearers P Suresh Babu and PJ Kunjumon. Former state president PC Chacko, Forest Minister AK Saseendran, and Thomas K Thomas participated in the discussions. The names and recommendations put forward during the meeting will be submitted to Sharad Pawar. PC Chacko, who resigned from the position of state president, will continue as the National Working President.
