MALAPPURAM: A mother and daughter travelling on a scooter were attacked with a machete on the national highway at Valiyaparamba in Thalappara, around 8 PM last night. The victims have been identified as Sumi (40), the wife of Moonniyur native Zakir, and her daughter Shaba Fathima (17).

The attack occurred while they were on their way to a mourning house in Kooriyad. A bike rider who overtook them suddenly carried out the assault. Both victims sustained injuries to their right hands and were admitted to Tirurangadi Taluk Hospital. Tirurangadi police have launched an investigation into the incident.
