THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The motive behind the Venjaramoodu mass killing remains a mystery. 23-year-old Afaan brutally murdered his own brother Afsan (13), his paternal uncle Latheef (60), his wife Sajitha Beevi (55), his paternal grandmother Salma Beevi (95), and his girlfriend Farzana (22). Afaan tried to kill his mother, but she escaped with serious injuries and is being treated in a hospital. It is still unclear why the accused did this and how he did it.
Locals said Afaan doesn't mingle much with people. He just smiles at them. The locals said Afaan was a huge fan of films. He had tried to imitate scenes from films in his life. While studying in school, a classmate beat Afaan. Following the incident, Afaan walked barefoot and wore sandals only after hitting him back.
This was the plot of Fahadh Faasil's 2016 film 'Maheshinte Prathikaram’. The villain thrashes the hero and the latter walks without shoes until he retaliates. Since he tries to imitate scenes from films so much in his life, the locals suspect that he may have followed the same style in the mass murder in Venjaramoodu.
