afaan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Polic said that in between the massacre, Afaan paid off his debt. After murdering his paternal grandmother, he pawned her gold chain for Rs 74,000 and paid off his debt of Rs 40,000. He deposited the amount in his account and then via G Pay, transferred the money. Police said Afaan's mother Shemi, alone has debts of Rs 65 lakh.

Afaan when surrendered said that he committed the brutal act because he could not go on with his life following the debts. The police's findings confirm this. It was earlier reported that Afaan's father Abdul Rahim has huge financial liabilities. His spare parts shop in Saudi Arabia is running at a loss. The police got information that Afaan’s mother Shemi had borrowed Rs 65 lakh from both inside and outside the family. The family was in a major financial crisis as Afaan’s father is unable to send money.

The detailed statement of Afaan will be recorded today. Attingal DySP came to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College last night to record the statement of Afaan, but was not able to record his statement. He returned after waiting for an hour as the accused was not in a good state of mind. The police said that more clarity will be obtained after examining Afaan's statement.

Meantime, the CCTV footage of Farsana leaving her house in Mukkunoor and walking along the road after Afaan called has surfaced. The other day, CCTV footage of Afaan's brother Afsan was also released.
