THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Afaan, the prime accused in the brutal Venjarammoodu mass murder case has reportedly given his statement to police. Afaan reiterated financial crisis as the reason for his barbarity. Afaan planned to commit suicide after the murders. However, things didn’t work out as he planned. Afaan is currently undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.
Afaan's statement as per police reports:
“Mother used to take money on credit from lenders for different purposes. The total debt just my mother brought has surpassed 65 lakhs. She took this money from 12 people. The practice was to take money on credit from a new person to clear the debt of the earlier one. With debt piling up and lenders confronting us, there was no option in front of us other than to commit suicide.
But I was not sure if everyone would die if consumed poison together. I wanted all my close ones to leave this world. So thus I decided to kill all and later commit suicide. Despite going through a serious financial crisis, my Uncle, his wife and my grandmother used to intervene in our family matters making things worse.
They used to blame us but never even once thought about helping us. The thought of Farsana living without me haunted me for days. I couldn’t think about it. So, I killed her and later took poison.”
