PUNE: A woman was brutally raped in a bus parked at a bus stand. The incident took place at the Swargate bus stand in Pune, Maharashtra. The 26-year-old woman was raped inside a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus. The incident took place between 5.45 and 6.30 am on Tuesday.
The police station was just 100 meters away from the scene of the crime. The accused is 36-year-old Dattatray Ramdas Gade. The police got his footage from the CCTV. The woman was going to Phaltan village in Satara district. She asked Dattatray if the bus was going to her destination. He said that the bus was going there. As there was no light on the bus, the woman asked if there were any passengers. To this, the accused told her that the passengers were asleep. The woman who got on the bus after this was raped by Dattatray after locking the bus door.
After the incident, the woman got out and boarded the next bus. The woman told her friend who was on board that she had been raped. With this, the friend suggested that she report the matter to the police. The police immediately registered a case and started an investigation. The investigation is being conducted by eight teams. The accused has not been arrested yet. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that the incident is "extremely unfortunate, distressing, infuriating". He said that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken the incident very seriously and has instructed the police to take strong action.
