THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A crucial meeting will be held in Delhi on Friday to resolve the infighting in the state Congress. Many political analysts will be looking forward to this meeting to see if the leadership recommends any leadership change in the Kerala Congress.
It is learned that Sunil Kanugolu, a member of the Election Task Force, has submitted a report suggesting a change in leadership to the High Command. Congress leaders including Adoor Prakash, Benny Behanan, Kodikunnil Suresh, and Anto Antony are being considered to replace the incumbent KPCC president.
If there is a change in leadership, at least ten DCC presidents will change. The changes, if decided, will be implemented before April. With the Tharoor controversy being discussed widely, the high command is seriously considering a change in the KPCC president. In case of a change in leadership, it is customary for the high command to communicate with the incumbent in advance. Hitherto, the congress leadership have not talked with KPCC president K Sudhakaran about the issue.
KPCC chairman, former chairman, opposition leader, working committee members and MPs have been invited to the meeting. Decisions may be influenced by the opinion of senior leaders.
Meanwhile, the leaders say that the main agenda of the meeting will be to strengthen the party base before the local elections. There is also the possibility of taming Tharoor by giving him a prominent position at the national level.
There are rumours within Congress about Christian sections being ignored. Benny Behanan and Anto Antony have been considered to alleviate this concern. At the same time, Ezhava sections, the largest community has only one legislator in the party. This heightens the chances of Adoor Prakash becoming the new KPCC president.
Proficiency in organization and administration and public approval are plus points for Adoor Prakash. Adoor Prakash is in Delhi for the meeting of the parliamentary committee related to railways.
