tharoor

NEW DELHI: There are hints that the party will be giving a coveted post to Shashi Tharoor MP, who is not in good terms with the Congress leadership for the past few years. The Congress’ new move is to keep a leader like Tharoor firmly within the party. Tharoor may be considered for the post of deputy leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Gaurav Gogoi MP from Assam is presently the deputy leader of the opposition. This is the next post after opposition leader Rahul Gandhi.

This change is in view of Gaurav Gogoi being considered for Assam PCC post. Assam is also a state where assembly elections are being held along with Kerala. The Congress high command has a plan to strengthen the party in the state by making Gaurav the PCC president. The Assam Congress leadership is of the view that Gaurav Gogoi should actively take the stage against Himanta Biswa Sarma in state politics. The Assam leadership has also written a letter to the high command in this regard.

A meeting of the Assam Congress leadership is being held in Delhi today. After this meeting, it is possible that Gaurav Gogoi will be declared the president of Assam PCC. If such a situation arises, he will have to vacate the post of deputy leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha. Tharoor had already demanded that he be considered for the main post when he met Rahul Gandhi and others. However, since Shashi Tharoor lacks organizational experience, the Congress may not be ready to give such responsibilities. However, the leadership believes that if he is considered for the post of deputy leader of the Lok Sabha, Tharoor can be calmed down a bit.
