KANNUR: Another case has been filed against Sherin, the accused in the Cheriyanad Bhaskara Karnavar murder case. The case is for attacking a foreign female prisoner in jail. The cabinet meeting had recommended that Sherin be released after reducing the remaining sentence. The new case is when this recommendation is under the consideration of the Governor.

The decision to reduce her sentence had sparked a controversy. The government claimed that the action was taken considering the recommendation of the prison advisory committee and the opinion of the law department. However, fellow prisoners had revealed that she was given more consideration in the prison. The new incident is amid these controversies.

Sherin and another prisoner attacked the foreign female prisoner on February 24. The Kannur Town Police have registered an FIR in this regard. The FIR said the two stopped and threatened the foreigner when she went to get drinking water. It was alleged that Sherin had harassed fellow prisoners earlier also. However, the Kannur Women's Prison Advisory Committee claimed that the recommendation for her release was based on her good conduct in prison.
