THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The arrest of Afaan, accused in the mass killing in Venjaramoodu, has been registered. He was arrested for murdering his paternal grandmother Salma Beevi. The Pangode police reached the hospital, where he is undergoing treatment, and registered his arrest. He is likely to be produced in the Nedumangad Court today itself.
The investigation team will be probing whether the lenders had come to Afaan's house and created trouble and they will also record the statement of the accused. Afaan’s statement will be recorded after seeking the opinion of the doctors of medical college hospital. The police are waiting for the results of the scientific examination of Afaan’s phone.
Meantime, the statement of Afaan's mother Shemi is also likely to be recorded today. The hospital authorities said that there is progress in her health condition. If she has no difficulties in speaking, her statement will be recorded today.
The police are of the belief that acute financial distress drove him to commit the murders. Afaan’s mother alone has a liability of Rs 60 lakh. The police found that amidst the financial distress, the family led a luxurious life.
