KOZHIKODE: Police have intensified their investigation to find the male friend of a law student who committed suicide in Kozhikode. The deceased is Thrissur Pavaratty native Mausa Mehris (20). She was a third-semester law student. Mausa was found hanging in her rented house at Vappolithazham on Monday at around 3:30 PM. As there were no other injuries on the body, the police concluded it was a case of suicide.
Yesterday, the police questioned six of Mausa’s classmates in connection with her death. Based on the information obtained from them, the investigation is now focused on her male friend, who is reportedly absconding. Mausa’s phone has also not been recovered.
Mausa's family had raised suspicions regarding her death. Mausa last visited her home in Thrissur on February 15 and returned to the rented house on the 17th. She had informed her family that she would return home before March 13 as part of her study leave.
On the day of the incident, Mausa attended class in the morning but left before it ended. Around 2 PM, some students saw her speaking with a classmate on campus. At around 3:30 PM, a fellow student living in a nearby room discovered her hanging in her residence.
Reports indicate that Mausa’s male friend is a resident of Kovoor and is allegedly married. The police are investigating various aspects of the case including whether he took possession of Mausa’s phone.
