THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Forensic examination was not able to find that Afan, the accused in the Venjarammoodu mass murder case, had consumed poison. The tests were conducted on samples collected from his stomach. However, a final confirmation can only be made after receiving the results from the chemical examination lab, which may take some time.
Based on the forensic test results, doctors have ruled out poison consumption. A CT scan was conducted to check for brain hemorrhage or other complications, but no issues were detected. The functioning of his liver and kidneys will be reassessed in the coming days. The psychiatric department has also found no signs of mental illness. Afan has been eating properly but occasionally exhibits anger. Due to his violent tendencies, his restraints have not been removed. He remains under strict police security in the medical pay ward.
Afan was formally arrested this evening for the murder of his grandmother, Salma Beevi. The arrest was recorded at the Medical College by the Pangode Police. The investigation team has begun probing whether creditors had confronted Afan at his house, leading to any conflicts. They will record his statement after consulting with doctors at the Medical College. Additionally, the police are awaiting the results of the forensic examination of Afan’s phone.
