MALAPPURAM: The shop of Sudheer Punnappala, husband of a defected LDF member, was vandalized following the recent no-confidence motion in the Chungathara Panchayat. The attack is alleged to have been carried out by CPM activists in retaliation for the defection.
According to Sudheer, a group of individuals locked his shop and took away the keys. In his complaint to the police, he stated that the attack was led by a five-member group under the leadership of former Panchayat President KP Reena. Seeking protection, he has also lodged a complaint with the Malappuram SP.
Two days ago, the UDF-sponsored no-confidence motion was passed in the panchayat, leading to the LDF losing power. The motion secured 11 votes in favor and 9 against. Vice President Nusaiba Sudheer supported the motion, siding with the UDF. Following this, the CPM accused her of being influenced by PV Anvar. The vandalism incident occurred in the wake of this political development.
