THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: "I killed my mother and grandmother too. Hearing this, Farsana was shocked and asked, ‘How will we live now?’ Immediately, I struck her on the head with a hammer and killed her." This was how Afaan casually explained to the police how he murdered Farsana, his girlfriend. However, the police have not officially confirmed this statement.
Afaan told the police that he killed his grandmother Salma Beevi at her house in Pangode out of resentment as she used to constantly blame his mother Shemi. As per his statement, he picked up a hammer and struck her on the head the moment he saw her. According to Afaan, Salma Beevi had been constantly blaming his mother for the family’s financial troubles. She frequently spoke about this issue with neighbors and relatives. The resentment over this is believed to have fueled Afaan’s anger.
The accused further revealed that he had not initially intended to kill Sajitha, the wife of his paternal uncle Latheef. However, after Sajitha witnessed Latheef’s murder, he allegedly struck her down as well.
Currently receiving treatment at the Medical College Hospital, Afaan has been giving inconsistent statements, leading the police to question the accuracy of his claims. Initially, he stated that his anger toward his grandmother stemmed from her refusal to provide financial assistance for his cancer-stricken mother’s treatment and his younger sibling’s education.
