KOZHIKODE: Apart from the police, the education department will also investigate the death of a 10th class student in a school gang fight in Thamarassery. Education Minister V Sivankutty, in a press conference, condemned the incident and said the government would do all necessary interventions to bring justice to the bereaved family.

“We are joining in the family in the grief. The police are conducting a strong investigation in this matter. Kozhikode Deputy Director of Education investigated the matter and submitted a preliminary report." The Minister also informed that the Director of Public Education has been tasked to conduct a detailed departmental inquiry.

Shahbaz, who was undergoing treatment in the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital's intensive care unit, died late on Friday night.

Mohammad Shahbaz, son of Iqbal of Thamarassery, died after getting beaten up by students from his tuition center. The students clashed on Thursday evening near the TRIZ Group of Institutions in Thamarassery.

The police put murder charges against all of the five accused students. The parents have been asked to produce these students before the juvenile justice board today.
