WASHINGTON: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he is not ready to apologize for the heated exchange he had between US President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance. However, Zelenskyy has softened his stance.
The conversation with Trump was a tough one. Zelenskyy said in an interview with Fox News that he wanted the US to be more supportive of Ukraine. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump's senior adviser Elon Musk had come out to demand that Zelenskyy apologize.
Zelenskyy arrived in the US on Friday to discuss a rare earths deal with the US. However, the meeting with Trump and Vance turned sour and Zelenskyy left the White House without signing the deal.
"I have done nothing wrong. The United States has helped a lot. I am grateful for all this. I respect Trump. I am grateful to him. Trump should stop Russian President Vladimir Putin. His country wants peace and diplomacy," Zelenskyy said. Meanwhile, European leaders and Canada came forward to express their support for Zelenskyy.

During the discussion, Vance suggested to Zelenskyy that the war should be ended through diplomacy. Zelenskyy's response was "what kind of diplomacy?" Trump and Vance became furious when Zelenskyy made it clear that he was not ready to compromise with Russia and called Putin a "murderer."
Trump and Zelenskyy spoke in a heated exchange. Trump said that if Zelenskyy was not ready to make a deal to end the war, they would go their separate ways. Trump criticizes Zelenskyy for gambling on World War III.
Ready for deal
Zelenskyy reiterated that he is ready to sign a deal to share Ukraine's rare mineral wealth with the US, but only if he receives security guarantees from US. The US has been demanding a share of the mineral reserves in return for its economic and military aid.
