THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain lashed Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram in the state today, while heatwave prevailed in other districts. The sudden rain in Thiruvananthapuram was due to a cyclonic circulation that formed at an altitude of 5.8 km in the western equatorial Indian Ocean between the Maldives and Kanyakumari Sea. The rain that started this morning was accompanied by thunder and lightning. The rain will decrease tomorrow.

Rain clouds caused by cyclonic circulation caused rain in Maldives and Sri Lanka on Saturday. It moved to Kerala today and caused rain in the southern districts. It became cloudy from Ernakulam southwards from this morning and rain started in Thiruvananthapuram around 10 am. Later, the rain spread to Kollam district. In the evening, rain was received in the Punnackal, Karanthur and Kodenchery areas of Kozhikode district and in Wayanad including Padinjarathara. The rain brought relief from the intense summer heat. The capital received continuous rain from morning to evening. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts due to the possibility of heavy rain.

Meanwhile, dry weather was experienced in North Kerala. Based on the ultraviolet index, an orange alert has been issued in Kottarakkara (Kollam), Konni (Pathanamthitta), Chengannur (Alappuzha), Munnar (Idukki), and Ponnani (Malappuram).
