NEW DELHI: A suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident where a Congress worker's body was found abandoned in a trolley bag. The body of Himani Narwal (23), a Congress worker from Kathura in Sonipat, was found abandoned in a trolley bag on Saturday. The arrested person is a native of Bahadurgarh in Haryana. However, the police have not yet disclosed the suspect’s name or further details.

Reports suggest that the accused was acquainted with Himani. He told the police that Himani had extorted lakhs of rupees from him by blackmailing him. Himani was allegedly murdered at the suspect’s residence in Haryana. According to reports, her mobile phone and jewelry were recovered from him.

The trolley bag containing the body was found near the Sampla bus stand on the Rohtak Highway. Locals informed the police about the suspicious bag. Preliminary investigations suggest that Himani was strangled to death. Further inquiries are underway.

Himani was the Vice President of the Youth Congress in Rohtak. In 2023, she had participated in the Bharat Jodo Yatra alongside Rahul Gandhi and was also involved in the election campaign of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda.

Meanwhile, Himani's mother Savita said that Himani’s sudden rise in politics and her close ties with senior leaders had reportedly caused resentment among other party members. She alleged that Himani’s association with the influential Hooda family and her participation in the Bharat Jodo Yatra with Rahul Gandhi might have led to hostility, ultimately resulting in her murder.
