KOZHIKODE: One more student has been taken into custody in the murder case of Mohammed Shahabaz, a tenth-class student, in Thamarassery. With this, the number of accused rose to six. The police are investigating whether more students are involved. The police are of the belief that no outsiders are involved in the incident. Detailed statements will be taken as the accused students are writing their exams. Mobile phones and laptops were seized in the raids conducted on the houses of the accused. These are being examined in detail.
Apart from Instagram, it is also being investigated whether the accused have groups on other social media. Although they are not directly involved in the crime, the police are mainly investigating whether more students were involved in planning and executing it.
There were widespread protests for allowing the five accused students write the SSLC exam. A separate center was arranged for the accused in Vellimadu Kunnu Observation Home for them to write the exam. The exam was conducted under heavy police guard. KSU, MSF and Youth Congress activists reached there protesting.
Many including KSU district president V T Suraj and others were arrested and removed. 85 protesters, including three women, were also arrested. Some jumped over the wall and entered the juvenile home. The Chevayur police have registered a case against the activists for trespassing into the observation home compound and protesting in a public place. The activists alleged that the police are trying to protect the criminals. The organizations have informed that the protests will continue in the coming days.
