Lal Jose started his film career as an assistant director. It was after completing 14 films as an AD that he took the director’s hat with ‘Oru Maravathoor Kanavu’ in 1998. The film went on to become a super hit, and Lal Jose, for years to come, contributed blockbusters to the Malayalam film industry.
‘Chandranudikkunna Dikkil’ was Lal Jose’s sophomore movie as a director, and his latest anecdote about the film is doing the rounds on social media.
DILEEP:
“The movie Aniyathipraavu became a rave during those times. Everybody at that time was talking about newbie Kunchacko Boban, the handsome young scion from the Udaya family. Teen girls and young women of those times were head over heels for Boban.
Dileep was climbing the ladder of stardom but lost his sheen with the impromptu arrival of Kunchacko in the movie business. At the set of ‘Chandranudikkunna Dikkil, ’ to kill time, Dileep, who was along with us, asked Kavya about her favorite actor.
When asked earlier, Kavya used to name Mohanlal as her favorite actor, while she also liked Dileep very much. So, Dileep was confident that Kavya would tell his name this time. But much to everyone’s surprise, Kavya named Kunchacko her current favorite actor. We used this incident to poke fun at Dileep.
Interestingly, Chandranudikkunna Dikkil’ was released along with Kunchacko Boban’s Niram’, which was directed by my mentor, Kamal. ‘Niram’ turned into yet another Kunchacko rave, while ‘Chandranudikkunna Dikkil’ failed in the big battle.
