PALAKKAD: More details have come out regarding the incident where a husband committed suicide by shooting himself after killing his wife. The deceased are Vandazhi Kizhakkethara natives Krishnakumar (53) and his wife Sangeetha (47). It has been found that the gun used by Krishnakumar to commit the act was an illegal, locally made gun. The gun, resembling a long-barreled 12-bore shotgun, was confirmed to be illegally manufactured after an inspection by the district armory division. Based on their report, the Mangalam Dam police have filed a case under the Arms Act.
The shocking incident occurred on Monday morning. The police suspect that the murder was driven by suspicions regarding his wife. Krishnakumar's wife and their two daughters had been living in Puthur, Coimbatore. Krishnakumar had been alternating between his family home in Vandaazi in Palakkad and Coimbatore. Early on Sunday morning, Krishnakumar arrived in Coimbatore from his Vandaazi home and had an argument with his wife. He then shot and killed her.
Later, at around 9 a.m., Krishnakumar returned to Palakkad by car and shot himself in the chest with the same gun near the house gate. At that time, Krishnakumar's father Sundaran and mother Sarojini were at home. They heard the sound and came outside, discovering the incident. They immediately informed the police. Before shooting himself, Krishnakumar had called his friends and relatives over the phone and informed them that he had murdered his wife and was going to commit suicide.
Sangeetha was a staff at the Indian Public School in Kovilpalayam, Coimbatore. . Krishnakumar, who had been abroad for a long time, returned home during the COVID period and was looking after the farming at their home. Krishnakumar had been staying at his house in Palakkad because his father was unwell. Krishnakumar repeatedly had arguments with Sangeetha, accusing her of being involved in another relationship.
