PALAKKAD: The main witness in the Nenmara double murder case is afraid to give his statement. The police said that he has refused to give evidence as he is scared of Chenthamara endangering him. He had told police that when he was grazing his goat near the spot, he heard an unusual noise and when he ran that side, saw Chenthamara hacking Lakshmi.
The eyewitness had gone to Nelliampathy on the day Sudhakaran and his mother Lakshmi were murdered. The police later got information through one of his relatives that he had seen Chenthamara hacking Lakshmi to death. Although the police searched and found him, he refused to give evidence. The police have not revealed his name and other details. He is not ready to give his confidential statement to the police or give a statement in court.
The police confirmed that the eyewitness was only 50 meters away when Sudhakaran and his mother were hacked by Chenthamara. The man, who got scared seeing the incident, fled from the spot. He reached home and informed his parents. He was later down with fever for a few days. Later, went to work with his relative. The police are continuing their efforts to include this youth in the witness list.
Meantime, the police have started recording the statements of other witnesses. The confidential statements of eight witnesses are being recorded. The statements of two were recorded today. The recording of two each will be completed in the coming days. As there are about a hundred witnesses, only the confidential statements of eight will be recorded.
