According to recent figures, the number of people suffering from diabetes is increasing. To prevent this condition, some people will resort to pills like metformin and insulin while some will try to keep the blood glucose level in the body within the control line by exercising regularly. The medicines used to treat diabetes have many benefits. Some people use such medicines to control their weight as well.

Dr. Vyankatesh Shivane, consultant diabetologist and metabolic physician at Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre in Mumbai, says that with weight loss, we will have more confidence. There were some arguments that this would also increase a person's sexual desire with their partner. Now, experts have clarified this argument.

GLP-1 receptor agonists like Ozempic (semaglutide) or Mounjaro (tirzepatide) are the medicines commonly taken by people to treat diabetes and lose weight. Studies have found that these drugs may reduce sexual desire in individuals. These drugs can help lower blood glucose levels and help with weight loss. Shivane says that more research is needed on the issue of decreased sexual desire and intimacy with a partner.

Dr. Madhulika Singh, senior gynaecologist at Ankura Hospital in Pune says that such drugs have some side effects. They cause fatigue, lack of pleasure, and lack of sex drive. Drugs like Ozempic or Wegovy can cause severe digestive issues or nausea. This can reduce a person's interest in engaging in sexual activity. Some drugs that help in weight loss have also been found to reduce the production of sex hormones in both men and women.
