HYDERABAD: Prominent singer Kalpana Raghavendar was admitted to the hospital yesterday after she overdosed on sleeping pills. It was initially reported that the singer attempted suicide at her residence in Nizampet, Hyderabad. Now, Kalpana's daughter Dayaprasad Prabhakar denied rumours of a suicide attempt.

According to national media sources, Daya admitted that Kalpana took sleeping pills, which she occasionally does, but accidentally consumed a tad more than the normal rate, which led to the situation. Daya said that her mother is currently healthy and fully recovered from the scare.

“Amma will always be happy like what she is now. She is a singer and is currently doing her Ph.D. and LLB. The work stress has affected her sleep hours, and she rarely gets time to doze off. To overcome this, mother consulted with a doctor and the medicine was prescribed by him. However, due to stress, she took an overdose, and it was not a suicide attempt. Many portals are paltering with the news,” said Daya.

The singer consumed sleeping pills at her home in Nizampet, Hyderabad, on March 2. Kalpana was found unconscious at home and was admitted to the hospital. The singer remains on ventilator support, but her condition is stable.

As she was not seen outside for two days, the security staff informed the residents of the community. As attempts to reach her by phone went unanswered, the residents informed the police. Finally, the police arrived and entered the house through the kitchen. They found her lying unconscious and immediately rushed her to the hospital.

Kalpana is the daughter of famous playback singer T S Raghavendra. Kalpana was the winner of Star Singer (Malayalam) season 5.
