THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 26 people were injured in the collision between a private bus and a KSRTC bus on the flyover near Thampanoor railway station. The accident took place at around 9.15 am today on the bend in the middle of the Thycaud bridge. The collision involved a private bus named Sabari and a KSRTC bus from the Pappanamcode depot.
Five of the injured have been admitted to the Medical College Hospital, 14 to the General Hospital and the rest to a private hospital in Killipalam. None of the injuries are serious.
Lakshmi (22) from Venganoor, Shaji (55) and Advaita (19) from Karakkamandapam, and Gauri (70) and Sindhu (44) from Peringammala are still under observation at the Medical College Hospital.
The private bus driver filed a complaint with the Thampanoor police, alleging that the KSRTC bus was speeding and caused the accident. The police have registered a case against the KSRTC bus driver, Ajimon, based on this complaint. Ajimon is undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The front of both buses was badly damaged in the collision. The fire force arrived and cut the front of the buses with a cutter. Then, the buses were removed from the road with the help of fire officials using a KSRTC recovery van. Following the accident on the bridge, traffic towards Neyyattinkara was completely stopped for about an hour and a half. Traffic was restored at around 11 am.
