KALLAMBALAM: A 29-year-old youth was taken into custody in connection with the death of a tenth-class girl in Navaikulam. Greeshma (16), only daughter of late Girish and Navaikulam panchayat clerk Sindhu of Navaikulam Kannamkonam Pulimoottil house (Greeshma), committed suicide yesterday. Greeshma is a student of Mother India School in Kadampattukonam. The Kallambalam police have taken Abhijith of Navaikulam into custody.

Abhijith was working as a supervisor at a bike showroom in Attingal. Abhijith, her neighbor was taken into custody after suspicions arose from checking the girl's phone. Police said the girl was sexually abused by the youth.

She committed suicide at 2 pm yesterday. Only her grandmother Saraswathi was at home. Sindhu had gone for work. Hearing the screams of her grandmother, the locals rushed to the house and broke opened her room. Greeshma, who was found hanging from the fan, was taken to Parippally Medical College Hospital, but her life could not be saved. The Kallambalam police then filed a case of unnatural death. After postmortem, the body was cremated in the premises of her house last afternoon.
