KASARGOD: Kesavan said that he came to know about the execution of his son Muraleedharan when he called from UAE on February 14. While talking to a media, Kesavan said Muraleedharan had been in Alain Jail since 2009.

After his son was jailed, had contacted the then chief minister Oommen Chandy and political leaders seeking help. However, Kesavan said could not release him from jail. He clarified that he is not going to UAE to attend his son’s last rites.

Muraleedharan was sentenced to death in the case of killing an Indian. Apart from him, Malayali Mohammed Rinash was also sentenced to death in the case of killing an Emirati citizen. Rinash's mother had submitted a memorandum to the chief minister and others, requesting them to save him as he committed the act in order to save him from the hands of a mentally disturbed person.

The two were executed on February 28 after the UAE Supreme Court upheld the death sentences of both of them. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs informed this. The Ministry of External Affairs had earlier informed that they had provided all possible assistance, including submitting mercy petitions and pardon applications to the UAE government, for Muraleedharan and Rinash. The Ministry of External Affairs said the relatives will be given an opportunity to attend their last rites.
