KOCHI: Six people, including two women, were arrested by the police in a raid conducted as part of Operation Clean in Aluva. Police seized four kilos of cannabis and 855 grams of hashish oil from them.
Mamata Digil (28), a native of Kandhamal, Odisha, was first arrested with four kilos of ganja from a hotel at the Aluva Pump Junction on Tuesday night. The police received a tip-off that the woman, who was having tea at the hotel, had intoxicating drugs with her.
During a search conducted in the early hours of the morning, Odisha natives Shiva Gowda (29), Kuldar Rana (55), his wife Moina Rana (35), and their assistants Santosh Kumar (32) and Rambabu Suna (32) were arrested from the railway station premises with 855 grams of hashish oil hidden in a bag.
Police said that the gang were bringing banned marijuana by train from Odisha and selling it here for Rs 25,000 per kilogram. After doing business, they would return by train to their native place. The whole gang came as a family to avoid suspicion, among others. Shiva Gowda is their leader. The hashish oil seized is worth Rs 25 lakh per kilogram. The mission was carried out in collaboration with the District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF).
The accused were arrested under the leadership of District Police Chief Dr. Vaibhav Saxena, ADG SP M. Krishnan, DySP TR Rajesh, and CIs Soni Mathai and Sunil Kumar.
