THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The wages of food delivery agents working for the online food delivery chain Swiggy in Thiruvananthapuram district have been revised. The rate for the distance between the restaurant and the delivery point has been increased to Rs 6.50 per kilometer. A minimum wage of Rs 25 has been set for each delivery. The rate of Rs 5 per kilometre has been agreed upon for the distance from the delivery agent's location to the restaurant, and the return distance after completing the delivery will be paid at a rate of Rs 6 per kilometre. The new wage will come into effect from March 10.
The decision was made during a discussion held as per the Labour Minister's directive following a petition submitted by the Joint Strike Committee of the workers, which warned that an indefinite strike would be declared if their demands were not met. The meeting, chaired by Additional Labour Commissioner KM Sunil, was attended by CITU representative Sukarno, INTUC representative Prathapan, AITUC representative Sajilal and Regional Director Rahath Khanna.
