KOCHI: KSRTC has decided to install dynamo-powered AC systems in all swift buses to better passenger comfort. The dynamo-powered AC system will work without reducing fuel efficiency. For the same reason, there will not be a further hike in the ticket price.

The project will be done by a startup company, ‘Heavy Cool’ in Chalakudy. One bus was handed over for AC conversion last week. If the project ends up successful, other buses will also be converted to AC in phases.

A private bus with AC installed by this company is operating on the Kasaragod-Bandadka route, which inspired KSRTC to make similar changes. Minister K.B. Ganeshkumar had appointed experts to study the acceptance of AC premium buses among passengers.

As the AC compressor operates using energy from the engine, fuel efficiency will usually decrease. Instead, the Heavy Cool Company's method is to use a dynamo to generate electricity, charge a 24-volt battery, and then operate the AC. Therefore, the cost of diesel will not increase. There will be no problem with mileage. The compressor will be installed on the roof of the bus.

Rs 6.5 lakh will be required to install dynamo AC mode in a bus.
