THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Advocate K Uwais Khan has withdrawn from the vakalath of Afaan, the accused in the Venjaramoodu massacre case that shook Kerala. The KPCC had received a complaint against Uwais Khan, the president of the Aryanad Block Congress, taking up the case. The complaint was filed by Youth Congress Thiruvananthapuram vice-president Saithali, seeking to stop Uwais from appearing in the case. The complaint given to KPCC president said Uwais action brought disgrace to the Congress.
Uwais Khan is also the president of the bar association of Nedumangad court. The explanation was that he appeared as directed by the Legal Services Authority chaired by district judge, as he did not have a lawyer for him. The Legal Services Authority provides lawyers to those who do not have lawyers.
Meantime, Afaan collapsed while he was about to be taken to Pangode for collecting evidence in the case of murdering his grandmother Salma Beevi. He collapsed in the washroom of the Pangode police station. Afaan was shifted to the primary health center in Kallara for further treatment. It was initially suspected that it was a suicide attempt. Afaan did not sleep at night. Doctors said the accused collapsed due to a variation in the blood pressure.
The Pangode police got Afaan for three days into custody yesterday in the murder case of his grandmother Salma Beevi. The accused, who was in the Poojappura Central Jail, was brought to the Nedumangad court at 11 am yesterday following a custody application.
