THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Afaan, the accused in the Venjaramoodu massacre case that shook the state, was brought to Pangode for evidence collection. The police team arrived under the leadership of Attingal DySP. Afaan was brought to the house where his grandmother Salma Beevi was murdered and evidence was collected. Heavy security was arranged at the place. Afaan will also be taken to the shop where he bought the hammer.
Meanwhile, lawyer K Uwais Khan has withdrawn from Afaan's legal representation. The KPCC had received a complaint against Uwais Khan, the president of the Aryanad Block Congress, taking up the case. The complaint was filed by Youth Congress Thiruvananthapuram Vice President Saithali, seeking a ban on Uwais from appearing in the case. The KPCC filed the complaint with the president, stating that Uwais's action had brought disrepute to Congress.
Uwais Khan is also the president of the Bar Association of the Nedumangad court. Uwais's explanation was that he appeared for Afaan as directed by the Legal Services Authority, which is chaired by the District Judge, as Afaan did not have a lawyer to represent him. The Legal Services Authority itself provides lawyers to those who do not have lawyers.
The accused in the Salma Beevi murder case was taken into custody by the Pangode police for three days yesterday. The accused, who was in the Poojappura Central Jail, was brought to the Nedumangad court at 11 am yesterday following a custody application. After the court proceedings, the accused was taken into custody at around 12 noon and taken to Pangode police station. He was questioned late into the night under the leadership of Attingal DySP.
