KOCHI: A woman renting a house in Kunnathunadu is sheltering approximately 60 stray dogs, leading to protests from the local community. A woman named Veena Janardhanan keeps the dogs in a rented house. Locals report that the dogs bark incessantly, and the area is plagued by a foul odor.
Veena says that it is not possible to remove the dogs from here now. 'Staff will come to clean the place. The dogs bark when they see people. The owner of the house is also an animal lover. The owner said that he would raise a dog, a pig or anything. There is an agreement. It is not stated in the agreement how many dogs I can raise. I am a rescuer,' said the woman.
MLA P. V. Srinijin responded that the dogs will be removed from that house. 'I went there. There are two women, and a small child living there among sixty dogs in that house. I didn't try to enter the house. I called the health inspector and the police. I spoke to the woman who was staying there on rent. I told her that I had received a complaint. However, they didn't let the police inside. There is something that is clearly stated in the Kerala Municipality Rules of 1998. If dogs are kept in any house, the secretary should issue a license for them as per the Panchayat Rules. I understand that they have not taken any such license,' said the MLA.
