KOLLAM: The CPM state secretary and ministers faced sharp criticism during the discussion on the activity report presented at the CPM state conference. The only person who remained largely unscathed from the criticisms was the Chief Minister.

A delegate from Pathanamthitta remarked that some individuals have a habit of contaminating even the clearest water, implying that the state government's approach follows a similar pattern. The delegate criticized the government's handling of ASHA workers' protests, stating that while these workers struggle with poverty and fight for their rightful demands, the government has shown no empathy towards them. Meanwhile, PSC members are being given salaries in "golden spoons," reflecting a deeply flawed approach by the government.

Although the party secretary's report emphasizes that decisions should be made based on merit and values, the party is distributing positions to leaders from the Kannur district alone without following these standards. Representatives from other districts are not receiving positions equally. Additionally, the ward delimitation process in local self-governments was carried out solely based on the inputs of officials, ultimately benefiting the UDF. The local self-government minister was accused of negligence in this matter.

A leader from Alappuzha strongly criticized the government's neglect of the traditional industries sector. While industrial progress is being made, traditional sectors like coir are being sidelined. Despite the formation of multiple expert committees to study the issues in the coir sector and submit reports, workers have not benefited in any way. This stance, the leader argued, was a major factor in the party’s defeat in the last Lok Sabha elections.

A female delegate from Kollam said that the Chief Minister was forced to face the criticisms against the government alone, as many ministers were unwilling to politically defend the government. She accused the ministers of failing to stand up for the government and alleged that the party lacks sincerity in its stance on women’s issues. While the party actively campaigns against superstitions and regressive traditions, it does not show the same commitment when it comes to defending women’s rights, she asserted.
