KOCHI: Kerala Blasters clinched a morale-boosting victory in their last home game of the 2024-25 ISL season. The Blasters defeated defending champions Mumbai City FC 1-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. Although their playoff dreams had already ended, this win allowed them to act as a roadblock for Mumbai. Kwame Peprah scored the lone goal of the match in the 52nd minute.
Neither team managed to score in the first half. Despite Mumbai City FC dominating possession and creating more chances, they failed to convert them into goals. In a season filled with controversies, including the mid-season dismissal of their head coach, Kerala Blasters managed to provide some relief to their fans with this victory in their last home game. They will play their final match of the season away against Hyderabad FC on March 12.
Meanwhile, Mumbai City's playoff hopes have now become uncertain following this defeat. This was their sixth loss of the season, leaving them in seventh place with 33 points. Mumbai must avoid defeat in their final match against Bengaluru FC to qualify for the playoffs. If Mumbai loses, Odisha FC will benefit from the result. Kerala Blasters' victory today also works in Odisha’s favour.
Having completed 23 matches, Kerala Blasters have registered eight wins, four draws, and 11 losses. With just 28 points, Adrián Luna and his team are currently in ninth place in the points table.
