THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Venjarammoodu mass murder accused Afaan requested his favorite dishes to be served inside jail in the evening. Afaan told police about having a tough time consuming anything other than Parotta and chicken during the evening. He opened up this to police when enquired on about putting leftovers in his evening food inside jail. Afaan confessed that Parotta and chicken was his staple food every evening. A few days back, Afaan had inquired with the police about the chance of getting fish dishes during meals.
In the last few days, Afaan was found awake inside his cell during the night. The accused was unable to lie on the bare ground and asked for help. Police then provided him with a newspaper to place on the floor and sleep on it. However, Afaan started reading the whole thing, which forced the police to buy him a mat.
Afaan’s confession about murder:
Thought about buying an iron rod but later chose a hammer as it was more comfortable to carry around. Haven’t foraged the internet to learn about murder tactics. The decision to commit murder came after the debt had piled up to a point from where there was no escape. Most of the money was borrowed from blade mafias.
The moneylenders started confronting Afaan after he bought a new car in addition to his Rs 2.5 lakh bike. Farzana also constantly demanded her necklace back. She let Afaan pawn the necklace without her father’s consent. Farzana feared the chances of her father getting to know the reality.
The investigation team also confirmed the debt of 70 lakhs mentioned by Afaan. The police received information regarding this from Afaan and Shemina's mobile phones.
Meanwhile, Afaan’s father, Rahim, denied having huge debts and told police that he used to send money at definite intervals. However, this has not been reflected in bank records.
