KOZHIKODE: A youngster who swallowed an MDMA packet to evade police arrest died hours after being taken into custody. Maikavu native Shanib died in the incident. After being taken into custody, the accused told police that he swallowed the MDMA packet. An endoscopy examination revealed envelopes containing white granules in his stomach.
On Friday, police spotted Shanid acting suspiciously with a package in his hand in Thamarassery. Upon seeing the police, he tried to run away and swallowed the package. Police caught him in the chase, and it was later that Shanib told officials about the MDMA packet. Shanib was then rushed to Thamarassery taluk hospital. On the advice of doctors, he was later shifted to Kozhikode Medical College. An endoscopy examination found two packets. The white granules inside the packets were confirmed to be MDMA.
Shanib, who was undergoing treatment in a critical condition, died this morning. Further details of death will be known only after postmortem. The police had registered a case against him under the NDPS Act. According to police, Shanib was a history sheeter, previously accused in drug cases.
