KOZHIKODE: The 28-year-old Shanid from Mykavu died after swallowing the MDMA packet he had with him to escape from police. His family says that they didn't know he used drugs. His grandmother said that Shanid often reached home late at night. However, locals said that they were aware of Shanid's drug use.

Shanid lived with his grandmother in his father's house near the Parammal church in Ambayathode. His grandmother says that she has never seen him bring drugs home. She also explains that Shanid did not get angry with her when she scolded her for arriving late.

Shanid did not have much contact with the people in the area where he lived. Locals say that there are many more people in the chain that includes Shanid. They also opine that they need to be found and that there should be more effective intervention from the officials.

Shanid swallowed the MDMA packet in his hand when he saw the police. The deceased was identified as Iyyadan Shanid, a native of Maikavu, Kozhikode. After the accused revealed that what he had ingested was MDMA, the police admitted him to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. An endoscopy examination revealed envelopes containing white granules in his stomach.

Yesterday, the police saw Shanid in a suspicious manner with a package in his hand in Thamarassery. Upon seeing the police, he tried to run away and swallowed the package in his hand. Later, when the police chased him and caught him, he told the police about swallowing the package containing MDMA.
