KOLLAM: As the CPM's Kollam state conference enters its final day, it is seen that the power succession effort has become the main agenda, replacing the severe organizational scrutiny that has been followed in the organizational conferences since its formation.
A day was set aside yesterday for a general discussion based on the second Nava Kerala document for the succession of power. The main focus turned to the second Nava Kerala document, 'New Paths for a Nava Kerala' presented by the Chief Minister. Therefore, the public discussion on the draft political resolution prepared by the Central Committee, the organizational work of the last three years, and the international, national and state political situation, which had been of the utmost importance until now, did not gain much strength. The CPM, which saw the party as bigger than anything else, placed the succession of power above everything in the Kollam session.
Policies changing
The CPM openly rejected the slogans and protests that were being chanted till yesterday in the Kollam session. The second Nava Kerala document on the succession of power has declared the privatization of public sector enterprises and development through private investment as the policy of the Kerala CPM. It was contradictory that the resolution to make the strike called in May by the trade unions against the central government's sale of the public sector a success was passed. The state secretary's justification for this is that the central government is implementing crony capitalism in collaboration with monopolies while the CPM aims at private investment that benefits the people.
No time to correct mistakes
The CPM conference is also meant to correct the wrong tendencies that creep in among party workers and leaders. Although the irregularities in cooperative banks have created disdain among the people and the regional factionalism was openly admitted in the work report, there were no in-depth inspections and discussions. The growing greed for money among a section of the party was not discussed. The announcement that there would be an inspection to see how far the correction line of the Kolkata plenum had been implemented was limited to the leaders' press conference.
Pinarayi captain in the conference too
Pinarayi became the captain of the state conference as in the last assembly elections. In the discussion that followed the activity report praising the Chief Minister to the skies, no one was ready to raise criticism against him.
